EAS Meeting - June 30, 7:00pm, Lake Hills Library: This is our final meeting before summer break. We operate on a "school" schedule so we are off for the summer for star parties and other activities. Of course check the web page here for info on star parties and other viewing events.
This month we have our good friend Dr. Ron Hobbs coming to give a presentation on the Hubble Space Telescope. Ron will cover a bit of the history of the scope, images, the recent STS-125 mission that just upgraded the scope to extend it's life a few more years. Ron was very lucky to attend the STS-125 launch and had about the best view possible of a launch - from the VIP area - that's near the big countdown clock that is always on TV, about 3.5 miles from the pad. He'll have some photos of the launch to share also. Ron always gives great presentations, so this should be a fun evening.
As usual, we'll have refreshments, and the always popular book drawing.

Tentative date - Bowman Bay Star Party 2009 - Aug. 14-16: Mark your calendars for our summer star party gathering. We are aiming for the weekend of August 14-16 for our yearly star party up at Bowman Bay this year. We still have to work out details with the park, but that's our target date. The moon will be up, but it will be about first quarter, so it will set and still leave plenty of dark skies.
More info later as we work out the details.
